Spring Selection 2019 Wines

2017 Estate Dry Riesling

The 2017 Dry Riesling has even less residual sugar than the past few vintages at 3 g/l, but you'll be unlikely to notice this because of the crisp, juicy orchard fruit and because substantial skin contact prior to fermentation has brightened the already exotic citrus notes and jasmine aromatics.

This vintage contains 52% White Springs Vineyard grapes and 48% from 16 Falls Vineyard. Extremely refreshing and enduring, the grapes were harvested under excellent conditions and the vines saw little winter injury nor any drought stress throughout the growing season - two characteristics that ensure a great riesling vintage. A lovely Dry Riesling that will also age gracefully for those who enjoy a more, complex, smoky and rich Riesling.

2018 Field Notes Blanc

A Field Blend is a wine that is made from the varieties in a single vineyard that are grown, harvested and vinified together. Field Notes is a version of a field blend with grapes grown together in our White Springs Vineyard, vinified separately and then blended in the cellar to create a charming summer blend of 63% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% Valvin Muscat and 18% Riesling. This slightly lower-alcohol, botanical, uniquely Finger Lakes blend combines bright, lush, yellow fruits with crisp acidity and a long finish. All of our 2018 Sauvignon Blanc went into this blend because we had so little of it that vintage.

2017 Cerise

A Ravinous Club crowd favorite going back to the inaugural vintage in 2006 is our red wine, Cerise. Always a blend of Pinot Noir and Blaufra╠łnkisch, this vintage is 59% the former, 41% the latter and was matured in 100% older French barrels. The result is a soft, ripe bouquet of black cherries and red plums, along with delicate spices.

Both cool-climate varietals, that thrive in the Finger Lakes, are a perfect pairing together because of the balance of tannins, acidity and herbal characteristics. In 2017, you'll notice a harmony that's achieved when the harvest was warm and dry, allowing the grapes to fully ripen into a vibrant and savory wine.

2017 Merlot, Two Gorges Vineyard

This is a special, single vineyard wine that we only produce in certain fantastic vintages, the last being 2008. Formerly called the Glen Eldridge vineyard, this plot sits just below and to the south of the Argetsinger Vineyard.

The Two Gorges Vineyard is terraced, with a very steep slope and close proximity to Seneca Lake, offering exceptional protection, perhaps the best of any site in the Finger Lakes. It is also the location where we harvest the Cabernet Sauvignon for our Le Petit Caporal. Lifted, bright and articulate, this expression offers lovely finesse in its red-toned fruit and floral aromatics. A Merlot clone that provide incredibly loose, long clusters means clean, beautiful fruit that produces a classic, cool-climate and balanced merlot.

For the spring selection we extended the time between billing and shipping by a few days for those that are having their wine shipped. This will ensure enough time to allow you to make corrections to addresses or your desired ship date should the need arise. Previously we've shipped wine a couple of days following the billing process and then receive an influx in change requests that we can't always fulfill. We are certain this new schedule will lead to superior customer service for future club shipments.
